Herself depicts the woman coming to my exhibition and looking at my work with curious concentration. As she was examining my work, I found that I was studying her. Her manner, her demeanor, her style, the way she carried herself. She looked as if she was sometimes being sucked into the painting. At some point, while watching her, it came to me in a swirl of time and space that I did not know whether she had entered the painting or whether the characters in the painting had poured themselves out into the world. The red painting within Herself, is a depiction of another of my own paintings, in which zebras appear, shown here the zebra has left its own canvas, making entry into this woman’s world.
