Jaeyi Kim - The Same Gaze 6
Jaeyi Kim - The Same Gaze 6
The Same Gaze's Pierrot is a self-portrait that depicts me as a child and was the beginning of the Pierrot series. This is the sixth edition of The Same Gaze. It is a work that expresses the side of myself that has always felt alone because I am shy and sensitive. I sometimes hide my true self because, while I feel lonely, I want to belong to a group of people.
Pierrot it is a growing diary in which the realization of feeling unhappy and unfulfilled leads to the recognition that becoming a fully formed adult, step by step by step, is a search for what is truly wanted.
I began painting precious stories that were buried deep inside of me, and from my early self, when I was young and beautiful. The Pierrot girl is a self-portrait of me as a child, and the woman in the front is a representation of me who still suffers from growing pains as an adult. This same theme has been a consistent part of many of my paintings.
“Remember your childhood dream. Please, may we sympathize with each other in the sight of the eye.”
